Jenna Stevens walked into the Candy Kisses Shoppe, searching for Raven DeMarco. Once Raven saw what Jenna had in her hand, she knew her partner would definitely unleash her Cajun temper. Still, Jenna couldn't resist playing a little part in helping her friend find a love similar to the one Jenna now enjoyed. She couldn't imagine a love like she had with Marc until he walked into her life this past Christmas season. Each day brought something new with him and she was in agreement that Raven deserved the kind of passion and love Marc had brought into her life.

Looking around the shop, Jenna saw Raven was busy decorating the store for Valentine's Day. Glistening hearts hung from the ceiling, candles and cheery cherubs swung from the windows, and a huge double heart sparkled in the large front window. A chocolate picture in between the two hearts always caught Jenna's eye. With the help of her lover's magic, the window's appearance changed every few days. Visitors asked what caused it to change. Jenna made sure to tell them "the power of love" was responsible. A love like the one she shared with Marc was what she wanted for her best and most wonderful friend.

Jenna swept a critical eye over the well-stocked counter displays as her mind replayed what Marc introduced her to last night involving the many uses of candy. It was enough to make her blush all over, especially when she remembered how wanton she got whenever he touched her.

Shaking her head, she crossed the shop and went into the back room where they created their candy. "Raven, you got a minute? I got to talk to you about something."

Walking to the coffee pot, Jenna inhaled the aroma of the wonderful chicory coffee Raven made every morning. She soon spotted her friend near the cooler door.

Pouring a cup of strong, steaming liquid to give her the caffeine buzz she thoroughly enjoyed, Jenna tried to figure out a way to bring up the Bachelor/Dog Auction set for Valentine's Day to benefit the local animal shelter.

Jenna turned around and leaned against the marble counter. As she sipped her morning brew, she studied Raven from under her lashes. Tall and strikingly beautiful, Raven exuded a confidence that drew many men's eyes. With her long blond hair, piercing green eyes with long lashes, and pouty lips begging for kisses, her single days would be few once she met the right man.

"I know you don't have plans for Valentine's Day. Why haven't you gotten out lately? You used to have a date each week, and I always teased you about it," Jenna asked, watching Raven warily.

"Cheri, I swore off men after my last disastrous date with Mr. Exotic. I think it was around the time you met Marc, if I remember correctly." Raven straightened slowly. "I decided to take a break. Let's just say that date with Mr. Exotic wasn't so exotic or as wonderful as you could imagine. When a date becomes Mr. Grabby Hands, I wasn't as amused as he thought I was supposed to be."

"You know I want you as happy as I am with Marc. I want you to find the love you deserve. I know you, Raven. We've been friends for ages. Can you honestly tell me that you're happy the way you are, that you're not lonely?"

Raven sighed. "You know me so well, cheri. I do want love, but I also know it will come when it is the right time. Am I not right? Didn't I tell you that you would find the one man to make you weak in the knees when you least expected? Then in walked Marc."

Jenna took a deep breath and handed Raven the flyer she had hiding behind her on the counter. "Raven, I know you're right, but I still think you should check this out. Maybe just have some harmless fun."

"What is this, Jenna?" Raven held the paper and read the flyer aloud, "It's that time of year again when Cupid flies around delivering love arrows. The Bachelor/Dog Auction will benefit the local animal shelter. Four-legged animals need love, too. Winners go out on a date to the scrumptious Fairy Castle Restaurant. Join the fun at the Dragon Inn, Valentine's Day at seven pm. Check out the dogs that need your love and support, as well as the men that accent them."

Raven looked at her friend after reading the flyer and smiled. "It's okay, Jenna. I was planning to attend anyway, just to see if they had any dogs that would be right for Allegra and me. The cat needs something to torture besides my feet when I am sleeping."

Jenna relaxed a bit and chuckled at the affectionate, yet exasperated tone she heard in Raven's voice when speaking of her kitten.

Raven gave a wicked little laugh. "Besides, cheri, the men won't be too bad, either."

A huge wave of relief went through Jenna at Raven's reaction to the flyer. "I was hoping you wouldn't lose that Cajun temper on me if I brought it up."

Laughing a little, Jenna finished her coffee and smiled, hugging her friend. "I only want what's best for you. Now, I think we need to get some more candy-coated hearts finished in time for the most romantic day of the year."

With a wave, Jenna nearly skipped into the store to get ready for the anticipated rush of people ordering their Valentine gifts, hoping Raven was serious about attending the charity auction.

Series: Devon Falls
About the series:

Welcome to Devon Falls, founded in 1784 by four families with one goal: to find a town where they can live without their special gifts coming to light. The Stevens families were master bakers from France with an affinity for magic, the Dracon families owned a hotel in London and were shape-shifters, the Sinclair families were skilled in the art of building in Germany and were dream walkers, and the Craven families were talented musicians from Russia with an ability to manipulate the elements. They all found freedom and contentment to use their gifts in the new town they called Devon Falls. As the years passed, the families grew and expanded. Love blossomed among the residents and the many newcomers, and the town flourished.
